The uniforms are in the process of being made. Mingistu grew up in Denkaka and is the primary person sewing the uniforms. He normally charges 80 birr but he is only charging us 50 birr. He said if we were willing to bless the children in the village then he too wanted to be a part of blessing them. It is amazing how people who have so little are willing to give. He contributed 750 birr for the children. Many thanks to Mingistu and his helper.
The white shirts for the younger children are finished and the pants are more than half way sewn. Mingistu uses a sewing machine that in the USA we consider an antique. It is the same kind that was used 60 or more years ago by many of our grandparents (for those of us over 50) Uniforms are pressed by using a hot stone and a heavy metal iron. No electricity is used in this process.
